Our Church - St John's
St John the Baptist Parish Church, Malden
Malden Parochial Church of England Primary School has very close links with our local church, St John the Baptist. Every Wednesday, we welcome members of the ministry team to take Collective Worship. Once every half term we also have a Eucharist service in the school hall. Throughout the year services are also held at St. John's in which pupils fully participate.
The History Behind Malden Parochial School
In the 1860s The Rev’d William Chetwynd-Stapylton was the Vicar of St. John’s during a time of rapid growth after the coming of the railway to Worcester Park. He was a driving force behind the effort to build a primary school for the children of the local community. Malden Parochial opened in 1864 on the site of the present school. “Parochial” means that it is of the Parish and was built for the children who live locally, and we welcome children of all faiths and none. Our admissions criteria prioritise places for children living in the Parish.
About St John’s
St John’s is committed to maintaining an open and inclusive place for all, because they believe such an attitude, closely reflects God’s generous love and compassion. It is an inclusive Church – church which does not discriminate on any level, including economic power, gender, gender identity, mental health, mental ability, physical ability, race or sexuality. The Church welcomes, accepts and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.
